Fresh snow and a bluebird day marked the end of a "challenging" 2012 winter season for NZSki in Queenstown yesterday.
Chief executive James Coddington said NZSki was disappointed to have been forced to close both the Remarkables and Coronet Peak on Saturday due to "atrocious" conditions, including high winds.
However, there was a bright side to the weather bomb - an overnight delivery of 10cm of snow to the Remarkables and 5cm to Coronet Peak, which made for a perfect closing day.
"It's always nice when the snow gods grace us with their presence ... it's never too late and to get snow the day before closing is fantastic.
"It's been a fantastic day ...
lots of happy faces and a fantastic note to end on."
Mr Coddington said it had been "one of those funny seasons", which had gone quickly, but had provided NZSki staff with plenty of challenges.
"If we look back on the highlights, we could open on time and close on time ... it's a massive credit to our snowmaking team and our grooming team."
The company had its official staff party two weeks ago.
The 15-week ski season at Wanaka's Cardrona Ski Resort also ended yesterday, in fine, spring conditions.
Marketing manager Nadia Ellis said it had been an awesome season.
Treble Cone Ski Field closed on September 30.
