Leonore was inspired to begin knitting for others when a loved one was in hospital, and she saw a project to knit beanies for babies. Soon beanies were joined by blankets, and then jumpers – but Leonore’s generosity has gone even further.
“I thought, what’s the use of a jersey and hat, without pants?” So, she began buying pretty little leggings to complete the outfits, and regularly presents a full box of beautifully wrapped sets of clothing to the Maternity Ward.
Sarah Stokes, Acting Charge Midwife Manager at Southland Hospital, is thankful for Leonore’s generosity. “I couldn’t believe the kindness and all the hard work she puts into making these baby sets. We have a lot of families who do not know the value of wool in keeping babies warm, or who don’t have a family member who can knit or can’t afford to buy woollen items.
“We are very grateful for the time Leonore takes to create these items so we can donate them to families and babies in need.”
