Australian coach Lisa Alexander will remove all sentiment from the equation when she picks her side to try to level the three-Test netball series against New Zealand.
The Diamonds are trailing 1-0 after going down 54-52 in Melbourne on Sunday, a match in which shooter Catherine Cox earned her 99th cap.
That Cox, 36, is on the cusp of a century of appearances won't enter into Alexander's thinking as she looks ahead to the second Test in Auckland on Thursday night.
Milestones are really important for individuals, she says, but her focus is on the team performance.
"One of the things I've learnt over the journey of coaching is, if you bow to sentiment, then you'll end up sentimentalising yourself out of it," she said.
"We have to be careful about those sorts of things."
Among the decisions for Alexander is whether to retain Cox as the starting goal shoot, or opt for Caitlin Bassett.
Bassett made an impact when she came on in the last 15 minutes in Melbourne, scoring 15 from 17 as Australia made a late rally.
New Zealand-born Cox, who landed 27 from 33 during her three quarters on court, agrees that Bassett has put her hand up, saying she did "an amazing job".
"She's a different player to me - she's such a massive target - and just bringing her on shocked them for a little bit," she said.
"If she's capable of playing that well, I'd start her, if I was Lisa. She had an exceptional end to the game."
A member of the NSW Swifts for four seasons before playing for the West Coast Fever this year, Cox was born in Whangarei and was six when her family moved across the Tasman.
She made her Test debut against South Africa in 1997 at the age of 21 and has been part of two world championship-winning Australian campaigns.
She is trying not to think too much about her prospective 100th Test appearance.
But it will give her plenty of pleasure in joining a couple of other Australians in the 100 club.
"They're very good friends of mine in Liz Ellis and Sharelle McMahon," she said.
"I would like nothing more than to join the ranks of those two in particular."
