A weekend of troublesome taxi trips

A 26-year-old Queenstown woman was arrested on Tuesday night after allegedly yelling and screaming in the driver's seat of a taxi cab.

The intoxicated woman was found by police on Fernhill Rd about 8pm, in a parked taxi, "yelling and screaming" while the driver remained outside the vehicle, Acting Sergeant Tracy Haggart said.

The woman was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest.

• A Queenstown man was arrested after he allegedly failed to pay a $47 taxi fee when dropped at his home on Wednesday morning.

The 41-year-old was dropped at Lower Shotover Rd from town about 5am.

The taxi driver called the police and reported the man, who had also used offensive language with "racial tones", Acting Sgt Haggart said.

The man was charged with obtaining by deception and offensive language.

• Police have been checking freight trucks near Frankton this week, to see if they are roadworthy.

The Commercial Vehicle Investigation Unit has been checking licences, registrations and traffic weight near the Frankton bus stop.

A police spokesperson said the checks were done regularly and randomly in the area.

• A 40-year-old Queenstown man was arrested and charged with fraud on Wednesday.

The man was brought to the Queenstown Police Station at 11am, with regard to a "historic fraud matter" Acting Sgt Haggart said.

He had been allegedly altering company invoices and bank account details for his own benefit, from the local home improvement warehouse where he worked.

The man will appear in the Queenstown District court on Monday.

• Police are looking for a man in his early 20s, after an assault on Thursday morning, in Queenstown.

A 20-year-old male victim had been waiting for his flatmate outside the Real Journeys building about 1am and, after words were exchanged, he was struck by another male who was ina group waiting for ataxi.

The man, who was wearing a Dolce and Gabbana top,was described by the victim as being aged in his early 20s.
