Queenstown's night of troubles

An alleged assault was only the start to a night of troubles for a Winton group visiting Queenstown this weekend, police say.

At 4.30am on Saturday, an Arrowtown man (20) was arrested for allegedly assaulting a visitor from Winton, Sergeant Blair Duffy, of Queenstown, said yesterday.

While police were dealing with the 26-year-old victim, the victim punched his girlfriend in the face and was also arrested, Sgt Duffy said.

However, things did not stop there as the girlfriend allegedly made repeated attempts to free her boyfriend from the police car, eventually being arrested for obstruction.

Sgt Duffy said a third man (22), also from Winton, was arrested for obstruction after allegedly trying to free his friend from the police car.

At 1pm on Saturday, a local man (19) was arrested on a charge of driving while disqualified. His car was seized by police.

About 4am, a local man (26) was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman.

At 4.22am on Sunday, a male (17) was referred to Youth Aid after drink-driving on Church St. His breath-alcohol level was found to be 306mcg.
