Gardener grabs giveaways

Keen gardener Anne Padman, of Dunedin, was one of many taking advantage of the Dunedin City Council's plant giveaway at Tahuna Park yesterday.

Plants given away included an assortment of pyrethrum, dianthus, ageratum, marigold, silver dust, begonia, California poppies, verbena, nasturtiums and sunflowers.

Unsure what specimens she had taken, Mrs Padman said she was attracted to the most colourful plants left.

''My hanging baskets were looking a bit sad so I decided to go and get some new plants to keep them going for the rest of the summer.''

The council regularly gives away bedding plants when it changed its seasonal garden plots.
