Customers at Dunedin Airport will only be able to buy food and drink from one seller once a local operator bids farewell.

The Otago Daily Times understands that Chamber of Coffee, the cafe at the top of the escalators at Dunedin Airport, will shut next month so West End Hospitality Group can take over the site.

It comes after the airport initiated a process to move to a sole operator of food and beverages.

The New Plymouth-based hospitality company already operates one of its Airspresso "airside" cafes within the airport — the change in tenancy now making it the sole server of food and beverages at the airport.

Chamber of Coffee declined to comment on the record, saying a non-disclosure agreement was in place, but it is understood it has operated at the airport for nearly a decade.

Dunedin Airport also declined to comment due to "commercial and legal sensitivities" and out of respect for all the parties and staff involved.
