Specialist investigators are working to discover the cause of a car fire outside an apartment block in Queenstown this morning.

Emergency services received several reports a car was on fire outside the garages of Manor Park Lodge on Panorama Terrace about 8.50am.

Two fire crews and a police car arrived at the scene when the car was still alight and the fire had been extinguished by about 9.10am.

Police said no one was inside the car at the time of the blaze and no injuries were reported.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand have commissioned fire specialist investigators to look into the cause.

Residents said they believed the car's engine was switched off before it caught alight.
