Two Arrowtown rugby players - dressed in netball uniforms - emerged victorious on Saturday afternoon, taking just under three hours to complete the Battle of the Basin 2010.
Twenty-five teams of two gathered at the Chinese Village in Arrowtown for the noon start, heading around the Wakatipu basin completing challenges in the Amazing Race-themed event.
Event organiser Deborah Husheer said the teams had to complete about 15 activities, including sheep catching, ice skating, clay target shooting, skinning a rabbit, eating a huhu grub, begging for $10 - or shaving an eyebrow off, and riding a mechanical bull.
Team Candy and Jemima, aka Hayden Youngman and Aidan Winter, crossed the finish line first, while Arrowtown Preschool Lone Star Teachers on the Run Annie Cafe and Sara Bole were the first girls' team to cross.
Mrs Husheer said the event - which was last held in 2007 - raised about $9000 which would go towards new carpet and lino for the Arrowtown Preschool.
