After reading about the story in the ODT about reptiles dying after losing their habitat near Middlemarch after the fires, I thought I would share photos of the gecko we saw while hunting in an undisclosed place protected by a DOC reserve.
We quite often see these and skinks in an area in the Waitaki Valley. Not only do fires kill reptiles and amphibians but also sprays and other practices in their environment. The gecko slunk off into the long grasses but gave us enough time to take these pictures.
