A woman has been run over and killed near Auckland Airport this morning.
Police are looking for a truck and trailer which travelled south on the Mangere/Airport motorway under the Walmsley overbridge between 5.30am and 5.40am.
It was not known how old the woman was, police said.
Police would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the truck and trailer on the motorway.
Police closed the motorway to south-bound traffic, but it had now been reopened.
This brings the holiday road toll to 16 - already four more than last year's total for the entire holiday period.
The official holiday period, which began at 4pm on December 23, does not end until 6am on January 4.
