Two people are dead and a number of people, including three children, are injured following a crash on the Kapiti Coast this afternoon.
The crash happened about 2.45pm when a Commodore and a Honda collided head-on at the intersection of Otaihanga Road and State Highway 1, just north of Paraparaumu.
One person died at the scene but another died shortly after being prepared for transfer to Wellington Hospital, Ambulance spokesman David Ross said.
Another person was in a critical condition, one in a serious condition and three children had moderate to serious injuries.
The dead are thought to be a man and a woman.
Police were warning of significant delays for at least two hours after the crash.
One of those injured had been airlifted to Wellington Hospital, while the others were being transported by road.
It was not known at this stage whether two or three cars were involved in the crash.
The death brings the holiday road toll to 13 - the same number as last year's total for the entire holiday period, which finishes at 6am on January 4.
