Woman accused of sexually violating girl

A woman wept in the dock as she appeared in Christchurch District Court today accused of sexually violating a teenage girl.

The 33-year-old mother was granted interim name suppression until her next appearance set for June 29.

Judge Phillip Moran told her the suppression was "to give you an opportunity to tell the people who need to know about this".

She faces five charges of sexually violating the same girl over a period of five years from 2006.

Defence counsel Peter Doody sought the suppression order, saying that the woman faced "issues relating to depression", had a child of her own, and had to inform her family.

He said she would stay in Christchurch for a few days until she moved to the Wellington region.

Judge Moran granted her bail for the remand, allowed the move north, and ordered her not to communicate with the alleged victim.
