Police have named the two people killed in road crashes at the weekend.
Christine Ann Parsons, 45, died on Saturday when her blue Honda Civic hit a tree on Beach Rd in Kaiapoi, 19km north of Christchurch, about 11.45am.
Police were continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and asked anyone who saw Ms Parsons' car prior to the crash to contact them.
Yesterday, a motorcyclist was killed and his pillion passenger seriously injured after a collision with a car on State Highway 2, south of Makaraka, near Gisborne, about 5.30pm.
The dead man was Jason Quentin Whitney, a 25-year-old from Auckland.
The passenger was taken to Gisborne Hospital and later transferred to Waikato Hospital.
Senior Sergeant Maui Aben today appealed to anyone who saw the motorcycle, a blue and white Yamaha YZF, prior to the crash to contact police.
