A man has undergone surgery overnight after being stabbed.
Inspector Ben Offner said a male was taken to the emergency department at Tauranga Hospital with stab wounds to his chest, at 2.49am today.
The man's condition was considered very serious by medical staff, and he was undergoing surgery in the early hours of today.
The injuries occurred at a scene away from the hospital, said Mr Offner.
Police were following positive lines of enquiry.
