`Someone must know what happened to Emma': police

Police believe that missing Christchurch woman Emma Campbell's car might have been deliberately run off the city's Port Hills.

Ms Campbell, 29, has been missing since May 1 when her 1994 blue Toyota Corolla was found off the road in the Port Hills.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae said today police now believed the accident had been staged due to the apparent lack of speed at which her car had left the road, the lack of skid marks and the fact she did not return to the road to wave down help.

"Those things tend to point to a deliberate attempt to take the car off the bank," he told the stuff website.

Her disappearance was still being treated as a missing person's case, but he believed someone else knew they what had happened to Ms Campbell and he urged them to come forward.

"We need to take into account that there may be someone - and I suspect there possibly is - that knows what happened to her."
