Volunteers searched part of Queen Elizabeth Park on the Kapiti Coast for Paekakariki man Raymond Piper at the weekend, but the young father remains missing.
Mr Piper, 23, has not been seen since May 15 when he disappeared from the home of his partner Hanna Lark in Eatwell Avenue, Paraparaumu, after visiting his three-year-old son.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, head of the inquiry, has not ruled out foul play in Mr Piper's disappearance and said today inquiries were continuing.
During the weekend police completed an area canvass and attended a youth festival held on the Kapiti Coast as part of the inquiry.
"Some Kapiti residents also took it upon themselves to search Queen Elizabeth Park, also known as QEII Park, near Paekakariki," Mr Oxnam said.
"I'd like to personally thank these people for what they did over the weekend. This is very much appreciated by police."
Mr Piper, or Son as he is known to family and friends, was last seen wearing a black Rip Curl cap, baggy blue jeans, a brown T-shirt with the words "your girlfriend, my girlfriend" in white and white shoes, similar to basketball shoes.
Last week his family appealed for help to find him.
Alongside Mr Piper's mother Pania, father Opera and sister Aroha, Ms Lark pleaded for information that could lead to his whereabouts.
"We have searched high and low, and so have the police and still we are no closer to finding him," she said.
"We are tired, exhausted and desperate, and we need help from the community.
"If you have any information, no matter how unimportant you think it might be, can you just phone the police, let them be the judge of that information."
Mr Oxnam is urging anyone with any information to contact police as soon as possible.
