Police name woman killed in Canterbury crash

Police have named a Christchurch woman who died in a head-on car crash in Canterbury at the weekend.

Anna Clunie, 40, died at the scene of the crash, which happened on State Highway One, just north of Ashburton, about 2.30pm on Sunday.

Ashburton Senior Sergeant Grant Russell said initial inquires showed a south-bound vehicle crossed the centre line, scraped along the right-hand side of a northbound vehicle, pushing it into a fence, then hit Ms Clunie's northbound vehicle head-on.

Two others were taken to hospital with critical injuries following the crash.

The woman's death was the only one on the weekend roads.
