A teenager has died in hospital one week after he was involved in a crash south of Picton in Marlborough.
Michael Mealings, 17, died in Wellington Hospital on Saturday as a result of injuries received on April 24, when he was a backseat passenger in a ute which crashed on State Highway 1 at Koromiko, 8km southwest of Picton.
The driver, Alick Roy Tapp, also 17, was killed in the crash. Both were from Picton.
There were a total of six teenagers in the ute at the time. The remaining four have since been discharged from Wairau Hospital.
Police said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
