Former Kiwi rugby league star Tawera Nikau has made a second appearance in court over an assault charge, following an incident outside the Huntly police station on February 24.
Nikau is alleged to have jumped out of his car and grabbed his daughter Heaven-Leigh around the neck.
Heaven-Leigh reportedly fell to the ground before going into the station, where she laid the complaint. Nikau drove away from the scene and was charged later that day.
Nikau today made a brief appearance in the Huntly District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was remanded to reappear in court on June 1.
Community magistrate Sue Hovell said the matter was a private, personal and family one, while declining photo applications.
