The police inquiry into the killing of Manawatu farmer Scott Guy has now switched to Invercargill, where he attended a farming conference in the month before he was shot.

Police this morning said they were interested in any after-conference activities that Mr Guy may have attended or participated in, or if he was seen in the central city during his time in Invercargill, where he attended the South Island Dairy Event farming conference from June 21 to June 23.

Mr Guy, a 31-year-old dairy farmer, got up early on the morning of July 9 to milk cows on the family farm.

He was found shot dead at the end of his driveway on Aorangi Road by a passing stock truck driver.

Police know that on Sunday, June 20, Scott and his brother-in-law travelled with Air New Zealand from Palmerston North to Invercargill via Christchurch on the 4.25pm flight, arriving in Invercargill at 7.25pm.

The pair attended the South Island Dairy Event (SIDE) Conference at Stadium Southland at Surrey Park Invercargill, staying at the Moana Court Motel on Tay Street.

Scott and his brother-in-law departed Invercargill on 24 June on the 6.45am flight back home via Christchurch, arriving in Palmerston North at 9.30am.

Police are also interested in any after-conference activities that Scott may have attended or participated in, or if he was seen in the CBD during his time in Invercargill.

Police want to hear from anyone who saw and spoke to Scott Guy during this time in Invercargill between June 20 and 24.

The investigation team will be contacting conference participants direct but would like to hear from anyone with any information surrounding Scott Guy's movements in Invercargill.

Detective Inspector Sue Schwalger said: "The relevance of this phase is to identify if there were any incidents that we are otherwise unaware of that may or may not have occurred in Invercargill during this time, as the conference was only two weeks prior to Scott's death."

To speak to a member of the investigation team, contact 0800 808585. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
