Family holds out hope for missing woman

The family of a missing Christchurch woman are appealing for any information in the hope she may still be alive.

Emma Campbell, 28, has not been seen since her car was found over a bank in the Port Hills near Christchurch early on Saturday morning.

A helicopter with thermal-imaging gear failed to find her in the area of her crashed car today. A ground team and a dog handler searched buildings near Victoria Park but failed to turn up any evidence.

The family hoped Ms Campbell had walked away from the car and was simply dazed or confused about where she was.

"If there is any chance you are watching this and are able to pick up the phone then we're here waiting for you," her sister Bronwyn Tressler implored on One News.

Failing that, the family pleaded for anyone who knew what happened to her to contact police.

Canterbury search and rescue coordinator Sergeant Craig Prior said "more unsavoury" options were being considered.

The crash had caused only minor damage, indicating Ms Campbell was not thrown from the car. It was to be checked for finger prints to make sure it hasn't been pushed over the side.

Her wallet was found in the crashed car, and her shoes on a rough track nearby. Her cellphone was at her flat.
