A Christchurch woman is in critical condition in hospital after an assault in the city last night.
Police were called to an address in Worcester St, Linwood, shortly after 1am, where they found the 41-year-old woman - the occupant of the house - with severe head injuries.
A man has come forward to police and is assisting with enquiries.
The woman is in the intensive care unit at Christchurch Hospital.
A scene examination is under way.
Police are seeking information about the movements of a green Toyota Camry sedan, registration number ST 8323, which they believe to be associated with the assault.
