Woman 'launched out of door to assault officer'

A woman had to be pepper-sprayed after allegedly punching a police officer in the head during a disturbance in Mornington early today.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said police were called about 3.25am to a Napier St property where they tried to speak to a 49-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman.

Snr Sgt Bond said the woman started abusing them then "launched out of the bedroom door and assaulted police, so as a result was pepper-sprayed and arrested".

She allegedly punched an officer in the head and tried to claw at their head/face area.

The man tried to intervene and was arrested for obstruction.

The woman was also sought in regards to two shoplifting matters, and is due in court today charged with several offences including assaulting and resisting police and shoplifting.
