Construction has begun on Plymouth Brethren Christian Church’s new church at the corner of Factory Rd and Puddle Alley, near Mosgiel.

A spokesperson said the church was pleased construction had begun, but the project was not expected to be completed within the next 12 months.

Consent for the build was granted by the Dunedin City Council hearings committee in 2016, but the project was subject to delays, including the sale of the congregation’s original site.

The spokesperson expected a regular congregation of between 40 and 200 worshippers to use the church.

The church had consent to host up to 1300 parishioners for infrequent events.
