Water fountains in the Octagon, Dunedin, should be flowing again next month when the Dunedin City Council repairs a cracked pipe that was causing leaks.

Council senior contract supervisor Peter Hughes said yesterday the fountains had been switched off since early December.

They were intended to run 24 hours a day, except when there were public events in the Octagon, Mr Hughes said.

The fountains' pumps would also be checked while the work was being carried out in February.
