The campaign was inspired by the PD Avengers movement in the United States, a patient-led organisation united in the purpose of ending the disease.

As part of World Parkinson’s Day on April 11, cities around the world lit up their buildings and landmarks in blue in solidarity with the 11.8 million people who have the condition worldwide, including 13,000 New Zealanders.
