Two unconscious in separate alleged assaults

Dunedin police are investigating two alleged assaults in which a man and woman were knocked unconscious within minutes of each other in the central city on Sunday morning.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said a woman was knocked to the ground in Dowling St about 4am and was concussed.

She was taken to Dunedin Hospital for treatment and was discharged later in the day.

The female victim had ''named'' a woman allegedly involved in the assault, and police were following a line of inquiry to identify a man allegedly involved, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

Also about 4am a man was knocked unconscious in an alleged assault involving two other men in Rattray St.

Snr Sgt Aitken said the men were involved in a dispute outside the Nab a Cab taxi premises.

''A taxi has pulled up and there's been a dispute as to whose taxi it is. A male has been set upon by two men,'' he said.

The victim was taken to Dunedin Hospital and discharged late on Sunday.

Police were also ''following a line of inquiry'', he said.
