The 23 year old clinched victory in the week long Tour of Southland on Saturday with a fifth placing on the final stage.
He set himself up for the win with a dominant ride up Bluff Hill, a gutsy effort on the Coronet Peak climb and a wonderful time trial on the final day.
He became just the third Otago based rider to win the race and has been in the form of his life since crossing the Ditch to Melbourne earlier this year to ride for Pat's Veg.
He won the Tour of Tasmania early last month and performed strongly during the competitive Tour of Hainan in China a couple of weeks ago.
''I basically broke a few rules this week,'' he said.
''And that is: don't take the lead too early because it is impossible to defend.
''But without [the support of my team] I would not have been able to win. The guys rode their hearts out.''
Evans' next target is the national road championships in Napier in January. He hopes to attract a professional contract.
