Three Otago scientists vie for awards

Three emerging research scientists at the University of Otago have been named finalists in this year's MacDiarmid Young Scientist of the Year Awards.

Tim Woodfield, Jui-Lin (Mickey) Fan and Sebastian Suggate are among the 19 finalists from Victoria University, Massey University, the University of Canterbury, the University of Auckland, and Plant and Food Research.

The finalists' research covers subjects from nanotechnology and conservation techniques to new therapies to treat diseases.

The awards are New Zealand's top accolade for emerging researchers, and they are presented annually by the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology.

The awards are named after New Zealand-born, Nobel Prize-winning scientist, the late Professor Alan MacDiarmid.

The awards will be presented in Auckland on August 27.
