A thief is targeting flats in Dunedin's student quarter.
Police are urging North Dunedin residents to be vigilant following several thefts in the area during the past fortnight.
Flats in Castle St, Forth St and Northeast Valley were targeted, Sergeant Steve Aitken said.
''There's obviously someone active down there and people need to be really mindful of that,'' he said.
''Make sure all doors and windows are locked, and don't leave valuables within easy reach.''
The thief or thieves had entered flats - including some which were occupied - during the day and at night, he said.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious should immediately call 111.
Burglary victims should report any loss of belongings to Dunedin police on 471-4800.
