Dunedin will be given the opportunity to bid for unique creations while being charitable on February 20.

The Art For Life silent auction is being held at the The Roller Room in the Crown Mill to raise funds for this year's Relay for Life.

Art for Life was organised by Dunedin artists Jo St Baker and Julie Ashton, who wanted to do something creative to raise funds for the Cancer Society.

The two women approached Dunedin artists and were amazed by the response, Mrs St Baker said.

‘‘The artists have been amazing in their generosity and we thank them all.''

More than 30 artists got involved with the project, which had ‘‘a favourite place'' or ‘‘life and living'' theme, and were each supplied with a piece of canvas to create their masterpieces.

‘‘We believe that if people come along and support us on the 20th, it's a step towards making a difference in someone's life,'' Mrs St Baker said.

‘‘It will be a fun, highly energised 60 minutes of silent bidding and the outcome? You will walk away with a treasured piece of art that is affordable, wearable, collectable and you will be supporting the most worthwhile cause.''

There are 30 women's and 10 men's T-shirts up for auction, ranging in size from small to extra large. All T-shirts are black and 100 per cent cotton and are available in crew and V-necks.

The artists have created stitched-on or detachable patches and some have worked directly on to the garment, with a few artists adding funky options such as zips, pins, sterling silver brooches and buttons to their T-shirt. - The Boiler Room at the Crown Mill is located at 2 Manor St. Doors open at 6pm and silent bidding will continue until 6.59pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and no ticket or entry fee is required.
