Galloway Cook Allan partner Nathan Adams was feeling the heat yesterday as he geared up in a fireman's suit to climb 10 flights of stairs.

Mr Adams was among about 20 lawyers from the firm to take part in a stair challenge at the University of Otago's Richardson Building to raise funds for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand.

Ahead of the challenge, Mr Adams said he was feeling "a bit hot and a bit nervous''.

"I studied in this building on the 10th floor and I don't think I ever took the stairs to get there.''

The challenge was an opportunity to help a good cause and support the Fire Service, he said.

"With the huge fires in Canada at the moment, I think it brings out how grateful we should be for the service provided by firefighters.''

Otago Rural Fire Authority (ORFA) principal rural fire officer, Stephanie Rotarangi said ORFA hoped to raise $15,000 for Leukaemia and Blood Cancer New Zealand by the end of the month.

On Wednesday, firefighters would race Mayor Dave Cull and a team of councillors up the Council Chambers stairs as part of the fundraiser, she said.
