Members of Dunedin’s Myanmar community gathered in the Octagon yesterday to commemorate the "spark of nationwide democracy movement" in Myanmar on August 8, 1988, also known as the 8-8-88 democracy movement.

About a dozen people held placards while calling for the end of the dictatorship, and for leaders and activists to be freed.
