There are black ones and white ones, black and white ones, and even coloured ones.
They all have one thing in common. They need new homes.
The Otago SPCA is trying to find homes for dozens of kittens and cats after a deluge of strays.
"Our new policy is to try to save as many lives as we can, but we've got limited resources," SPCA animal manager Julie Richardson said yesterday.
"We really need to find some adoptive homes. We've been inundated with cats and kittens lately. We're getting a lot of stray cats and litters that have been dumped by people."
One litter that arrived this week had been dumped in a Lawrence rest area, in a box, with a board and a brick on top, she said.
"We're still getting mums with litters. People need to be responsible and get their cats desexed. A female cat can have three litters a season."
The shelter was also still housing about 10 refugee cats from Christchurch, Ms Richardson said.
Kittens are available for $140 and cats for $120 to help with expenses. It costs the SPCA $320 to desex, worm and feed a cat before adoption.
