Easter is expected to begin with fine weather, but get colder and wetter as another southerly front hits Otago, MetService weather ambassador Bob McDavitt says.
The days of 20degC-plus temperatures for Otago were over, but sunny, 12degC to 15degC temperatures were expected tomorrow and Saturday as the region recovered from yesterday's wintry blast.
The wind chill brought afternoon temperatures down to about 3degC around the region and dustings of snow on the hills.
Most places failed to break into double-figure temperatures.
Another southerly weather pattern was expected to hit the region on Sunday and Monday, bringing conditions similar to yesterday but not as cold, Mr McDavitt said.
