Six men ended up in hospital, some with serious injuries, following several crashes in Dunedin and one at Lawrence, at the weekend.
In the first incident, a 50-year-old Dunedin man was flown to Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries after the Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was riding and a car collided on State Highway 8, 6km east of Lawrence, about 3.30pm on Saturday.
A witness told the Otago Daily Times the vehicles were travelling in the same direction and the crash may have happened as the car went to pull over.
Police are investigating.
The man remained in a stable condition in the high dependency unit yesterday.
In the second incident, a Toyota Corsa with three people in it travelling towards Dunedin over Three Mile Hill Rd and a Toyota Corolla with one person in it, travelling in the opposite direction, collided as the Corsa was overtaking another vehicle near Whare Flat Rd.
Constable John Gilbert, of Dunedin, said the crash happened about 8.30pm.
The vehicle being overtaken was not involved.
All four people were taken by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital.
The two drivers and the front passenger of the Corsa sustained serious injuries.
Both cars were extensively damaged and it took the Fire Service about 20 minutes to cut the 23-year-old male driver, who sustained head injuries, out of the Corolla.
The Corsa's male driver, aged 31, sustained cuts and bruising, while the front seat passenger's head went through the windscreen, Const Gilbert said.
It was not known how old the passengers in the car were.
One of the men was from that crash was still in hospital last night.
Charges had not yet been laid as police were still to speak with all those involved.
About the same time, a utility vehicle travelling towards the city on Portobello Rd rolled near Macandrew Bay when its 22-year-old driver apparently fell asleep.
No other vehicles were involved.
Senior Sergeant Brian Benn, of Dunedin, said the man, the sole occupant of the car had not been drinking, but failed a drug impairment test and later admitted to police that he had used the legal high K2 before driving.
Charges were pending.
At 2am yesterday, a woman called police when she saw a white Subaru station wagon roll down the Vauxhall Yacht Club's ramp into Otago Harbour.
The woman had not been able to see if anyone was near or in the vehicle.
The first police officer on the scene swam out to the vehicle which sank 2m below the surface just as she got there and before she was able to determine if anyone was in the vehicle.
A tow-truck was called and another officer donned a wetsuit and dived down to attach the winch to the vehicle, which ''thankfully'' was empty when it was pulled out of the water, Snr Sgt Benn said.
Police inquiries were continuing.
