Ed Sheeran helped feed little blue penguin chicks today as part of a visit to the Otago Peninsula.

Taiaroa Head manager of operations Hoani Langsbury accompanied the English superstar and his entourage on his visit today afternoon as they toured the Blue Penguins Pukekura and the Royal Albatross Centre.

Mr Langsbury had agreed with the singer’s touring party that the visit would remain low-key.

‘‘We’ve agreed we’re not going to say much.’’

He said Sheeran seemed ‘‘shy and quiet,’’ but towards the end of the visit the singer grabbed Mr Langsbury’s phone and snapped a quick selfie before handing it back with a grin.

‘‘I think that was his way of getting around the photo ban.’’

While Sheeran remained largely incognito during the visit, Mr Langsbury said at least one person had cottoned on, judging by the sign reading ‘‘Ed Stop!’’ which waved by some hopeful punters at the roadside as the party zoomed past.
