Mrs Kim said the award was official recognition from the South Korean Government acknowledging her work.
She was honoured to be recognised, but the award was really a celebration of the work done by all members of the Korean community, she said.
The Dunedin Korean Society had worked with Korean War veterans since it was founded in 1995 and served as a supportive community for Korean people in Dunedin.
Mrs Kim was invited to Korea along with five other recipients from around the world to receive the award, but the trip had to be cancelled because of Covid-19.
She received a medal and a watch commemorating the achievement.
About 40 people were at the dinner yesterday and about 40 more would celebrate with her next week, she said.
