Sculptor Philippa Wilson (left), Friends of First Church secretary Elizabeth Wilson and senior minister Ed Masters, admire the Tree of Life sculpture at First Church.

The sculpture was dedicated to Philippa’s mother Florence Wilson, who died this year.

About 25 people gathered yesterday afternoon for the unveiling.

Florence was community-minded and people were her priority, Ms Wilson said.

It was wonderful to see the sculpture in a place where she spent time.

‘‘This garden is a garden that welcomes the community, as is this church.’’

The sculpture was commissioned by Friends of First Church and parts of its design were based on the church’s architecture.
