Turning up to school in a helicopter or a Ferrari might seem a little extravagant.
By the same token, turning up in a police car, an ambulance or a fire engine would be equally out of character for Silverstream School pupils.
But come this Friday, 12 lucky pupils will win a ride to school in one of these extraordinary modes of transport.
The initiative is the brainchild of the Friends of the School committee and is aimed at giving some of the school's pupils an opportunity to get up close and personal with a vehicle they would not normally get to ride in.
Committee member and school fair co-ordinator Natalie Cowie said pupils were selling tickets in the Awesome Rides Raffle for $1 each, but rather than the winning ticket holder getting to ride in a vehicle, the pupil who sold the ticket will get the ride.
Mrs Cowie hoped about 3000 tickets could be sold.
Pupils had been getting more excited as the day of the draw had got nearer, she said.
The money raised from the raffle would go towards setting up a school fair on November 23, and proceeds from the fair would be used to upgrade and future-proof the school hall facilities, which would include the implementation of a sound system and lighting, she said.
''We've had a fantastic response to ticket sales so far, and we're delighted with the support we have received from the local community in providing the different vehicles.''
