Dunedin families can now have their wishes fulfilled.

The annual Wishing Tree Appeal was launched at Kmart Dunedin yesterday.

Store manager Forrest Worthern said Christmas was a chance for the store to work with the Salvation Army to help local families in need.

"This was always a big event here in Dunedin [and] with our store closing four years ago and reopening with our brand-new store at the end of June this year, it’s a wonderful opportunity."

Mr Worthern said people could give money or place gifts under the wishing tree at Kmart Dunedin. The gifts would then be redistributed to families in need within the region.
