A review has started into the way a Dunedin transport forum is governed.

The Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency works with the Dunedin City Council and the Otago Regional Council and the three parties interact in a forum called Connecting Dunedin.

A package designed to offset traffic disruption associated with construction of the new Dunedin Hospital was progressing under the partnership, but the parties have not always been well aligned.

Waka Kotahi asked Peopleology Ltd to carry out a review concerning Connecting Dunedin governance and it is due to be completed this year.

This would ensure the governance arrangements remained effective in helping to integrate and align the programme of work, Waka Kotahi system design regional manager Richard Osborne said.

Dunedin city councillor Jim O’Malley said the nature of the relationship was being explored.

Communication had improved in recent years, he said.

Minutes from the Connecting Dunedin governance group referred to the review being behind schedule.

Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins said at a meeting last week he welcomed the review.
