Radiology reaccreditation move

Radiology facilities at the Southern District Health Board are a step closer to being reaccredited.

The SDHB's auditor has suggested it be brought in later this year to inspect facilities.

The radiology service has been operating without accreditation since March, after International Accreditation New Zealand - a Crown entity which audits laboratories and inspection bodies - said concerns relating to asbestos, staffing levels, waiting lists and IT systems needed to be addressed.

The SDHB wrote to IANZ last week and said most of those issues had been dealt with, barring some staff appointments, and asked if IANZ would consider a reaccreditation application.

SDHB specialist services executive director Patrick Ng told a commissioners meeting yesterday that IANZ had written back and suggested an inspection be held in September or October.

Mr Ng termed IANZ's response to the reaccreditation proposition as "a cautious yes", and told commissioners he hoped new staffing and approvals for weekend catch-up clinics would be in place before an audit.
