Pupils scrabble for winning words

Putting their vocabulary to the test in the Scrabble for Fun tournament at the Dunedin Public Library yesterday are Tilly Sweetman (8), of Opoho School, and Lucas Donovan (10), of Port Chalmers School.

Scrabble For Fun co-ordinator Ruth Groffman said 10 teams from six schools took part in the tournament. Sacred Heart School took the victory, followed by East Taieri School  second and Abbotsford School third.

The winning team was awarded a Scrabble set and had their name engraved on a wooden shield.

The tournament was a good taster for children who might want to explore the world of Scrabble further, she said.
