The wait is over for thousands of pupils around the country eager to see their NCEA results.

External examination grades were made available online yesterday morning, allowing more than 160,000 pupils to see how well they did.

Among those anxiously waiting were siblings Teddy (17) and Hetty (18) Finney Waters.

Hetty, who sat NCEA level 3 at Otago Girls’ High School last year, said that she did better than she expected.

With her positive results she was all set to study law at the University of Otago this year.

Things were not so positive for Teddy, who studied level 2 at Otago Boys’ High School.

He said most of his exams went well, but he was having difficulty with one of his results.

He had been marked absent for an exam he had taken and would have to wait until the papers were released to deal with the issue.

Despite that he was happy overall with his results.

He will continue on to level 3 next year.

Last year pupils received one additional credit for every five credits they achieved as recognition for the struggles put on pupils by Covid.

A maximum of 10 learning recognition credits could be received at level 1 and a maximum of eight at levels 2 or 3.

Examination papers will be made available January 24 and scholarship results will be available February 8.
