Dan Carter has some young competition nipping at his heels - Taylor Mechen.

The John McGlashan College pupil is not only one of Jockey's newest models, but he has his eyes on the No10 jersey.

Taylor entered a nationwide search for 15 Jockey Juniors to model the label's latest lifestyle range, Jockey Sports Club.

From 2500 entries, he and 14 other boys and girls were selected to spend a day with Carter and take part in an advertising campaign.

When he entered the competition, he was "quite excited", but "never expected to win", Taylor said.

"It was really exciting, I could not sleep the night before we went to the airport."

Taylor flew up to Auckland on Monday night and spent Tuesday having a kick around, lunch, an autograph session and official photo shoot with the group and Carter at Eden Park.

Along with getting the All Black to sign photos and T-shirts, Taylor was able to give him something back - a Murray Webb cartoon of himself.

The Mechen family got hold of two of the cartoons after seeing one at the Wobbly Art Exhibition last week.

After the meet and greet, some of the group travelled to Butterfly Creek, where Taylor had his second "once in a lifetime opportunity" - he saw the first crocodile hatch in New Zealand.

The whole experience was "really fun" and the current soccer player hopes to start playing rugby next year.

Carter said the day was "so different for me" and it was "heaps of fun running out on the field with just Taylor and the rest of the Jockey Junior team".

"They are such an awesome bunch of kids and we had a great time kicking the ball around. It really was a special day out there."
