Police are continuing  their investigation into the cause of a house fire in South Dunedin in which two people died.

Police yesterday released the name of the second victim. He was  David Ian Clarke (49). Mr Clarke and Anastasia Neve (35) were killed in a fire at a Wesley St property on Monday morning.

The couple had lived in a flat at the rear of the property for about a year.

A service for Ms Neve will be held next Tuesday.Another man, Kevin Taggart, who lived in the front flat, was pulled from the building by neighbour Mel Ryall.

In a statement, police said the postmortems on Mr Clarke and Ms Neve had been completed and the investigation into the cause of the blaze continued. A cordon in Wesley St which had been place between Macandrew Rd and Osmond St since Monday was lifted yesterday afternoon. A small police presence remained at the house.

No other information about the investigation was available yesterday.

On Thursday, Southern district police investigations manager Detective Inspector Steve Wood said it was complex scene and as a result the postmortems were also complex. Det Insp Wood said police had heard several different versions of the events which led up to the fire but were interested in dealing with the facts and what the scene examination and postmortems found.
