Dunedin musicians made a winning start at the 2008 New Zealand Brass Band Championship Festival of Brass which started in Christchurch yesterday.
St Kilda Brass principal cornet John Lewis won the open championship cornet and came second in the champion of champions division.
In other Otago successes, Matthew Toomata won the junior E flat bass, Katie Blair won the open amateur cornet, Fred Knopp won the masters cornet and Ralph Miller came second in the open soprano.
