Dust off the swimsuit and spark up the barbecue because summer is upon us and Otago is set to reach some summer-like temperatures this week.
Tomorrow marks the first day of the meteorological summer.
MetService meteorologist Emma Blades said, in a release, temperatures would start to rise in the southeast.
''Moist northwest winds strengthen on Wednesday and temperatures are likely to approach 30degC in parts of Otago.''
A front would sweep up the South Island on Thursday, bringing rain to the west and hot, windy conditions to the east, she said.
MetService duty meteorologist Arno Dyason said Otago would experience a ''nice few days'' this week.
''The northwesterlies in that part of the country will see it heat up a bit,'' Mr Dyason said.
Wednesday would be the warmest day, with high temperatures predicted.
Dunedin city was forecast to reach 27degC while Alexandra would claim the region's high of 29degC.
Dunedin airport was forecast to hit 28degC, Oamaru 26degC, Queenstown 25degC and Balclutha 23degC.
A few spots of rain, possibly some showers, might occur on Thursday and by the weekend it would be cooler, Mr Dyason said.
